KEY WEST, Florida Keys — Arts and crafts by leading Florida Keys talents, a waterfront setting reminiscent of Old Key West and melodies by local and visiting musicians are to entice attendees at the 11th annual Open Air Art & Music Affair.

Headquartered at the Schooner Wharf Bar, 202 William St. in Key West’s lively Historic Seaport, the “affair” is set for Saturday, March 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m.

Attendees can meet free-spirited local artists, discover their handmade wares and boogie to the beat of music ranging from humorous “island Americana” to bluegrass to high-energy rock.

Artists’ and artisans’ wares typically include acrylic and oil paintings, watercolors, jewelry, tropical clothing and items in mediums such as glass, bronze, clay, leather and found objects. Some artists work on site, giving attendees insights into their creative techniques.

Music by local and national acts is to continue well into the night. Among the scheduled entertainers are singer/raconteur Michael McCloud, backed by cohorts Professor Pete and Captain Carl, offering offbeat humor and original tunes.

In addition, the Doerfels are to take the stage. A family of 10 talented musicians whose average age is only 17, the Doerfels blend country, gospel and bluegrass with a touch of blues, jazz, swing and classical.

The evening’s headline act is multiple gold and platinum recording artist Paul Cotton and his band. Cotton is best known as the dominant songwriter, lead vocalist and lead guitarist for the country rock band Poco. The band will perform favorites like Poco’s “Heart of the Night” plus original songs, “trop rock” and New Orleans–influenced tunes with a southern tinge.

Other attractions include the Schooner Wharf’s cocktails and casual cuisine, and the seaport’s colorful waterfront atmosphere.
