Joan CrawfordKEY WEST, Florida Keys — The world premiere of a one-woman multimedia show written by and starring Christina Crawford, author of the blockbuster memoir “Mommie Dearest,” is to be staged in Key West Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 19-20. Performances are to begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Tennessee Williams Theatre, 5901 College Road on the campus of Florida Keys Community College.

“Surviving Mommie Dearest” features Crawford’s intriguing personal insights into her childhood as the adopted daughter of film icon Joan Crawford and her subsequent personal and professional challenges and triumphs. As well as “Mommie Dearest,” the play also is based on her second best-selling book, “Survivor.”

Christina CrawfordThe two-act play includes home movies, historical photographs, pictures from private collections, film clips and video interviews with both Joan and Christina Crawford. Within a two-hour time span, it covers almost 100 years of entertainment and show business history.

Directed by award-winning New York filmmaker Eric Marciano of American Montage Films, “Surviving Mommie Dearest” also draws on the talents of musical director George Bugatti and producer Jerry Rosenberg, co-owner of the renowned Metro Night Club in Jacksonville, Fla.

The two Key West performances benefit AIDS Help Inc., and the Keyswide organization’s fundraising campaign to choose the king and queen of Fantasy Fest 2011.
